TytoCare Home Monitoring FAQ

The home monitoring kit uses clinical-grade devices, so readings may vary from other devices you have used.

The most common cause for elevated readings is an incorrectly sized blood pressure cuff. If you think this could be the cause, contact TytoCare Support.

  • Take a deep breath, and blow out quickly and forcefully, like you’re trying to blow out the candles on a birthday cake.
  • Make sure your lips form a tight seal around the mouthpiece before blowing out. The end of the mouthpiece should be behind your teeth.
  • Do the test standing or sitting upright.
  • Make sure not to obstruct the tube of the spirometer (turbine) with your hand.
  • When spirometer is out of your mouth, avoid sudden movements because this will push air into the turbine and a flow value will be measured that may affect the test results.
  • Check whether the breathing tube (turbine) is dirty. If so, clean it as described in the printed user guide.
  • Try taking the reading again, following the directions on the screen. Avoid sudden movements when you finish exhaling.
  • Check that the breathing tube (turbine) has been inserted properly. Insert the turbine from the front of the device by pushing it all the way down and turning it clockwise. For more details, see the printed user guide.
  • Try taking the reading again.
  • Check whether the batteries in the spirometer are below 15%, and if so, replace them.
  • Make sure that the spirometer and the tablet are no more than 6 feet apart.
  • Do not use the spirometer near other devices (computers, cordless phones, cell phones, etc.) that generate strong electromagnetic fields. Keep such equipment at a minimum distance of 7 yards (in a separate room if possible).

If the problem persists, contact TytoCare Support.

  • Use the pulse oximeter while seated and still.
  • Make sure your hand is warm, relaxed, and below the level of the heart.
  • Sit still and do not move your finger where the pulse oximeter is located.
  • Avoid applying direct pressure to your finger.
  • Cold fingers, long fingernails and certain types of nail polish can interfere with the results
  • For very thin fingers, try using the middle finger or thumb.
  • Try taking the reading again.
  • The pulse oximeter batteries may need replacing.
  • Make sure the pulse oximeter is connected to the TytoCare Device using the cable included in your kit, and that the TytoCare Device and pulse oximeter are both turned on.
  • If the problem persists, contact TytoCare Support.
  • The scale must be on a hard surface for an accurate reading. Never use the scale on carpet.
  • Do not lean against anything when recording your reading if possible. If this is not possible, consult your care team.
  • Weigh yourself at the same time every day (morning is best, after using the restroom).
  • Wear the same clothes or nothing for every weight measurement.

Try taking the reading again, and if the problem persists, contact TytoCare Support.

  • Make sure the cuff is properly secured around 2/3 of your upper arm, your arm is completely still during the reading, and your arm is flat and below your heart.
  • Sit quietly with your arm relaxed before and during the blood pressure reading.
  • Keep your legs uncrossed.
  • Avoid tobacco, alcohol and caffeine 30 minutes before taking your blood pressure reading.

  • Take your temperature first thing in the morning.
  • Mild increases may be caused by exercising, too much clothing or bedding, taking a hot bath, or being outside in hot weather.
  • The TytoCare Device should be in the same room as you for at least 30 minutes before taking a temperature reading.
  • Make sure your forehead is not obstructed by hair and is clean of sweat or makeup.
  • Do not take a temperature measurement while wearing a hat.
  • Do not take a temperature measurement directly under the air conditioning or heating vent, or in direct sunlight.
  • Try to eliminate external noise when doing the exam.
  • Do not move the TytoCare Device on the body while recording a measurement.
  • Make sure the TytoCare Device is placed firmly on your body and, if possible, place it directly on your skin.

If the problem persists, contact TytoCare Support.

  • A blurry image can be caused by dirt or earwax stuck to the otoscope lens. If the image is blurry, clean it with alcohol on a cotton swab.
  • Make sure to place an ear cap on the otoscope, and turn it to lock in place.
  • Pull the top of the ear back and up to straighten the ear canal. Follow the darker area of the image until the eardrum is in view.
  • One reason could be that the camera lens is dirty. For the Throat and Skin exams, clean the camera lens at the front of the Device, using 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes.
  • Another reason could be that earwax is stuck to the otoscope lens. For the Ear exam, clean the lens at the tip of the otoscope thoroughly, using 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes or cotton swabs (q-tips) dipped in 70% isopropyl alcohol.
  • Another reason could be that the image is not focused. During the throat or skin exams, touch the Device screen at the area of interest to apply auto-focus. In the skin exam, make sure the camera is not too close to the skin.

It might not be charged. Connect the charging cable to the Device and plug it into the power socket. Let it charge for at least several hours.
