How Avel eCare and TytoCare transform school health services
Avel eCare, one of the largest and most comprehensive telemedicine network in the United States, partnered with TytoCare to transform how health services are delivered in schools. They were able to build a scalable, efficient, and deeply compassionate model that ensures students receive high-quality care where they are, without leaving school and without placing additional burdens on already-stretched school nurses and parents.
By deploying TytoCare’s Pro Smart Clinic across school districts in multiple states, Avel eCare is bridging care gaps for rural and underserved communities, easing the school nurse shortage crisis, and bringing peace of mind to students and their families.
The Care Gap in the Classroom
Across the U.S., 60% of schools lack a full-time nurse, and many rural or underserved areas have limited access to pediatric healthcare. This gap leads to increased absenteeism, poor health outcomes, and frustration for both families and school staff. Parents are forced to miss work or risk their child not receiving care and often end up utilizing the ER for issues that could have been resolved by a PCP.
Avel eCare wanted a way to:

A Clinic in Every Nurse’s Office
Avel eCare integrated the TytoCare Pro Smart Clinic into its school-based virtual care model, bringing medical-grade remote exams and real-time clinician access into school nurse offices.
The partnership began at the start of the 2018 school year, giving Avel eCare time to train staff, establish workflows, and evaluate impact across a full academic cycle before scaling further.
Each site was equipped with the Pro Smart Clinic, allowing school nurses or even non-clinical staff to connect with remote Avel clinicians for immediate care delivery. This hybrid model empowered local schools while maintaining clinical oversight through Avel’s centralized virtual care teams.

What’s Next: Smart Growth and Deeper Impact
Building on the success of the initial rollout, Avel eCare is now focused on expanding its partnership with TytoCare strategically and sustainably. Plans are underway to introduce the Pro Smart Clinic to additional school districts across their multi-state footprint, with a continued emphasis on reaching rural and underserved communities that often face the greatest barriers to care. At the same time, Avel is scaling its efforts within existing districts by training more school staff, strengthening workflows, and ensuring that the technology is seamlessly integrated into daily school health operations. To maximize the impact of each device, the team is also working to consolidate and reallocate equipment in areas with overlapping coverage, ensuring that every TytoCare unit is fully utilized to support student health. Together, Avel eCare and TytoCare are building a school-based care model that’s not just growing in size, but in depth and durability.
