For the 18 million American adults living with heart disease, the 15 million battling chronic lung disease, and thousands more ill with COVID-19, regular monitoring of blood oxygen saturation levels and heart rate is essential – and the easier and more convenient it is to check these metrics, the more effective care providers can deliver.
That’s what makes the launch of Tyto Care’s Pulse Oximeter adaptor a game-changer for the future of telehealth.
Cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the rollout of the new SpO2 device marks the latest step toward bringing fully remote, clinic-quality testing capabilities to the comfort of patients’ homes.
How It Works
Connecting by cable to TytoCare’s examination device, our fingertip Pulse Oximeter is simple to use.
Patients place their finger in the SpO2 device for 15 seconds. Once the exam is complete, blood oxygen saturation and heart rate results appear on TytoCare’s handheld device as well as the Pulse Oximeter adaptor. The results are transmitted within the TytoCare platform for clinical review and are also uploaded to patients’ electronic health records (EHR).
During live telehealth visits, the results appear immediately in the TytoCare Clinician Dashboard. To verify the results, physicians can view the heart rhythm graph generated during the exam.
Making Telehealth Truly Comprehensive
As the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, readings from the device can provide critical insights into the conditions of patients quarantining at home, as well as the newly discharged – making it easier for providers to rapidly identify and respond to any signs of serious illness.
And while the pandemic will eventually end, the need for real-time blood oxygen and heart rate monitoring will not.
According to the World Health Organization, by 2050 there will be more than 2 billion people worldwide over the age of 60, representing some 22% of the global population, compared to 900 million such individuals who made up 12% of the world’s people in 2015. As the world population gets older, millions more will face heart and lung disease and other chronic conditions. For health systems to keep pace with rising demand, comprehensive telehealth capabilities will prove indispensable.
Tyto Care is already empowering patients and providers with comprehensive physical examinations of the heart, skin, ears, throat, abdomen, as well as lungs and body temperature. With the release of our Pulse Oximeter, patients in the U.S. and Israel will now have access to our latest solution through partnering health systems. The solution will also be available soon in Europe, South Africa, and Asia.
