More rural schools are finding school nurses online through Avera eCare

With a small team at the ready and access to telemedicine, Avera Health is helping more rural school districts than ever before care for students in the Midwest at a time when some school administrators can no longer afford to keep full-time nurses on site.

Avera’s eCare School Health program has gone from serving one rural South Dakota school district in 2017 to 31 across two states today. And with other surrounding states considering joining the program, the effort has made Avera the leading healthcare system filling the gap for medical assistance in underserved education populations, Avera officials said Thursday.
